What this record tells us
A gaspipe trench observed in 1979 revealed masonry identified in Buteux’s assessment as part of the medieval Priory wall. The same work recorded medieval and post-medieval deposits north of Pinsley Brook in the former fishpond area, with references HWCM 19513 and 8913.
The current HER title calls the masonry a possible town wall. Retain that classification history while explaining the Priory-wall interpretation. This episode is separate from the 1983 pottery and timber observation, HWCM 5291, and the much later Pinsley Mill work.
