Scraping, automated harvesting and bulk downloading are not permitted without prior written permission, except where permitted by law or an applicable licence. Ordinary search-engine indexing is permitted in accordance with our published crawler instructions.
Third-party material remains subject to its stated rights and licences. We can only license rights that we hold. These terms do not restrict statutory exceptions or permissions already granted under an applicable open licence.
Rights and restrictions
Original writing, research structure, design and database selection are protected. Third-party photographs, archive material and contributor content follow their own credits and licences. Do not remove credits, circumvent controls, submit malicious files, overload the service, impersonate others or submit unlawful, defamatory or rights-infringing material.
Research, links and availability
Records are revised as evidence develops and may not always be complete or available. External links support research and attribution but do not amount to endorsement.
Law and statutory rights
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales and its courts. Nothing excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or affects statutory rights.
