Evaluation and watching brief carried out in advance of the proposed conversion of part of the priory complex into a Youth Hostel, revealing foundations of a number of monastic buildings, notably in the claustral area. Building recording also undertaken. Woolhope Club summary, Archaeology, 2000, pp. 101: Works exposed a sandstone foundation and a demolition or construction dump that may relate to claustral buildings, possibly the warming room. Medieval glazed floor tiles indicated high-status buildings; later levelling for the workhouse and disturbance from the hospital were also recorded, together with standing fabric revealed by plaster removal.
