What this record tells us
Site code: TPL03A Evidence of Saxon & medieval activity (possibly of an agricultural nature) encountered. Information from Archaeological Fieldwork Record Form (24. 02. 04.). Developer: Advantage West Midlands, Tenbury Wells Woolhope Club summary, Archaeology, 2003, pp. 109: Ten evaluation trenches and monitoring during road construction exposed a possibly medieval ditch and a pit radiocarbon dated to AD 430-660. Two shallow channels or furrows may relate to medieval cultivation, and the observed alluvium helped define earlier floodplain limits.

A ditch and shallow channels or furrows were interpreted as possible medieval agricultural features. The deposits also helped define earlier floodplain conditions.
The dated pit is notable evidence for activity in the centuries between Roman rule and the documented medieval town. It does not, by itself, identify a house, village or minster. Two ADS entries use different project points; they appear to describe related work and should not be counted as independent discoveries of two early medieval pits.
