What this record tells us
Stage 1 salvage recording of residential groundworks following the earlier evaluation (Event 1234563) concentrated on the medieval and later water features, identifying an early water channel of early medieval/preconquest date. Funded by Allenbuild (West Midlands) Ltd. Woolhope Club summary, Archaeology, 1998, pp. 282: Investigation recorded evidence for an 18th- and early 19th-century mill just outside the north-east corner of the site and leats along the north and east sides. A further channel of unknown date ran east from Bridge Street through the south of the site and was considered potentially pre-Conquest.
