a (150). Talbot Hotel, Nos. 5 and 7, 15 yards W. of South Street, is of three storeys. The front block was largely re-built and heightened in the 18th century. The back wing has some exposed timber-framing.

EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and cellar; 2-window range: 3-storey canted bays with 2/2: 12/12: 2/2 sashes in beaded cases, flanking blind arcade with plastered sinkings under segmental arches, on 1st and 2nd floors. Central entrance: C20 plank door under 4-centred arch, and C18 moulded wood hood on consoles, with C20 wrought-iron balcony over; flanked by blind openings with C20 lights and brickwork, under segmental arches. Rear: wing with steep-pitched Welsh slate roof, and C18 brick end stack. No.7: C19. Painted brick; hipped slate(?) roof; brick end stacks. 3 storeys; 3-window range: late C19 9/1 sashes under segmental arches with keyblocks; 3/3 sashes with continuous sill-band under similar arches; brick cornice. Entrance to right: C20 plank door and glazed overlight, under earlier overlight, and C20 balconette; 2 late C19 6/6 sashes under gauged brick flat arches with keyblocks; moulded brick band overall. No.9: C17 with C18 alterations. Close studded post and pan framing with plaster panels, over C18 brickwork; Welsh slate roof. 2 storeys and cellar; 3-window range: C18 8/8 sashes and, to left, late C19 6/6 sash, in broad moulded cases. Part-glazed double doors and blocked overlight, flanked by bow-windows on iron brackets; moulded and modillioned wood fascia-board and hood, with triglyphs on plain pilasters; to right, late C19 6/6 sash.
