Small lights not proven blocked: Opaque appearance in LH005 is insufficient to prove physical blocking.
17th century; 19th century raising and refronting Documented principal date and expressly identified fabric phases. RCHME additionally documents early-16th century ceiling beam, 18th century front rebuilding and wall paintings. These are separately scoped historical fabric, not proof that the whole house is 16th century.

a (85). House and shop, No. 2, immediately S. of the Market Hall, is partly of four storeys. The front part has been largely re-built in the 18th and 19th centuries, but the back part has exposed timber-framing within the building. There is also an early 16th-century moulded ceiling-beam. The staircase in the front block incorporates some early 17th-century carved work. There are also some curious 18th-century paintings on the walls of view from the windows.

Stucco; shallow pitched hipped slate roof. 4 storeys and cellar; single-window range: late C19 3/3 sashes, in moulded cases to 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors; 4 small fixed lights. Altered early C20 shop front under moulded fascia-board and hood, with stop-consoles on panelled pilasters. Left returned side: slate-hung gable. Rear: slate-hung wing with C17 timber-framing to rear gable. Further roughcast wing with brick axial stack. INTERIOR not inspected.
