a (48). House (Plate 142) and shop, No. 18, immediately N. of (47), is of three storeys with attics, and was built c. 1600. The W. front, above the modern shop, has exposed framing in squares and is finished with two gables. The second and attic floors project on shaped brackets; the bressummer to the attic floor is moulded, as is a beam below the windows. The barge-boards are enriched with two rows of billets and have apex-posts. On a post above the second floor level is the date 1600. Inside the building, the upper staircase (Plate 73) is original and has flat shaped balusters, heavy strings, moulded handrails and square moulded newels with moulded terminals.

Timber-frame and plaster; steep-pitched Welsh slate roof with twin-gables to street; 2 stacks to rear. 3 storeys and attic; 2-window range: late C19 3-light casements in simple architraves; jetty on scrolled brackets; C20 3-light mullions with leaded lights; moulded bressumer on scrolled brackets, to gables; two 3-light mullion casements with leaded lights, over shallow jetty; spurred braces. Symmetrical framing with small panels. Entrance to left: late C19 plank door and plain overlight under modillioned wood hood on scrolled consoles, and pilasters; late C19 shop front with central half-glazed double doors and plain overlight, between canted windows with moulded glazing bars; moulded fascia-board and hood on plain pilasters. Rear: spurred brick axial stack; pantiles; two C18 gable wings, to left with steep-pitched roof, storey bands and 3/6 sash under segmental arch. INTERIOR not inspected.
