What this record tells us
The Hereford Journal of 27 July 1786 reported a lead container of Elizabeth I silver discovered during building work. The masons had been preparing scaffolding near an old house. The quantity and denominations were not recorded. Murray Andrews recovered the notice from the newspaper record and reconsidered its proposed Civil War connection.
Andrews identified Ebnall and South Street as possible locations through later Tudor-family landownership. These are research hypotheses, not interchangeable precise coordinates. Coins of Elizabeth I could have remained in circulation for decades, and an association with the Civil War cannot be established from the surviving description alone.
